Paddock & Estate Fence

Paddock and estate fences offer a nice midpoint between the complete privacy of board on board fence and the open views of a split rail style fence. Paddock & estate fence styles are highly economical, as they require less wood than other types of fences and fence installation can be a breeze. Customers with extensive acreage often choose this style of fence as it creates a pleasing border while also keeping animals confined within the property. We do fence installation for paddock & estate fence designs throughout Maryland, Northern Virginia, and West Virginia, including Westminster, Hagerstown, and Frederick.

We use pressure-treated pine for our wood paddock & estate fence designs, which holds up well under pressure and can withstand the elements for many years. Any fence we build also comes with an 18-month warranty on workmanship of all our paddock & estate fences.

 What’s a Paddock Fence?

paddock fence

Paddock fence installation is made with anywhere from three to five horizontal flat boards made of southern yellow pine or cedar —typically measuring 1″x6″x8′ or 1″x4″x8’—that get attached to pressure-treated cedar posts. Aside from picket and split rail fence, this is one of our most requested fencing styles. When we build a paddock fence, regardless of the type of wood used to create the rails, we always work with pressure treated posts, so your fence posts will last a long time and won’t require constant maintenance.

Paddock fence installation comes in 36”, 48” or 60” tall. It can be 2 board, 3 board or 4 board. It can also be built in custom 5 or 6 board in different heights. Paddock fence can be built from several types of lumber. It is available with 4”x4” pressure treated post, 5”-6” round post, 4”x4” black locust post & 6”x6” treated post. Boards can be standard 1×6 treated boards, standard 1×6 cedar boards, treated 5/4” boards, rough cut true 1×6 boards, treated and rough cut 1×6 oak boards.

For residential, the most common is treated 4”x4” post with STD 1×6 treated boards or 4”x4” cedar tone post with cedar 1×6 boards. For farm fence rough cut 1×6 treated boards & rough cut 1×6 oak boards are normally used. Boards can be on 5”-6” round treated post, 4×4 treated post, 6 x6 treated post or 4×4 black locust post.

What’s an Estate Fence?

Estate fencing is similar to a paddock fence, except some of the boards that go between the posts are overlapped to form a diagonal crisscross design. Estate fencing typically uses between 4″ and 6″ flat boards, depending upon how many horizontal boards you want to use above or below the crisscross pattern. Estate fencing comes in 4 board, 5 board, or 6 board in different combinations and is normally 48” tall.
