Flower Boxes

With some wood, nails, a hammer and some paint, you can make your own unique flower box for your fence or deck railing!

With some wood, nails, a hammer and some paint, you can make your own unique flower box for your fence or deck railing!

Love to garden and are looking for both a way to decorate your fence and plant some herbs or flowers that take up minimal space?  Flower boxes hung on the fence are your best bet!  The good news is that you can you can be as creative as you like when it comes to fence flower boxes. If you’re not necessarily a do it yourself person, you can buy a flower box from your local nursery and purchase hooks to hang the box on your fence.  If you consider yourself somewhat crafty, you can design, build and paint your own boxes to match other elements either in your yard or your home.

Shop around online and you’ll find you can also purchase ready-made flower boxes that come in various shapes and sizes that either come with either hooks or openings on the bottom of the box so you can just sit them on the fence rail.  Be mindful that if you live in an area that gets a lot of wind that you’ll want to find ways to brace the boxes so that they don’t fall off should major gusts  hit your area.

Privacy Mesh

Have a picket, split rail or aluminum fence and want to add a bit of privacy without having to replace the entire fence?  You can now purchase privacy mesh for your fence and hang it inside your yard.  If you have small dogs or other four-legged pets, privacy mesh also keeps them from crawling through the fence rails.  Likewise, privacy mesh can also keep some unwanted animals—like rabbits—from getting in your garden and chewing your flowers.

Arbors

We may not need to board up the windows, but a few of those cookouts may need to move indoors. While you’re bringing in the patio furniture and covering up the pool, consider taking the time to ensure that your fence is prepared to handle all sorts of weather. Read more…
